Oil and natural gas play a much larger role in our lives than just transportation and power generation fuel, and at the heart of the US’ industry-leading petrochemical facilities lies Houston. The US Gulf coast’s petrochemical industry touches nearly everything that touches you. From cosmetics to diapers to food and medicine to fertilizer to cellphones, plastics, lubricants, fibers, textiles and on and on and on. Now with the shale revolution practically drowning the city with cheap, high-quality natural gas and oil, the Greater Houston area will be the world’s petrochemical center for at least the remainder of this century.
